How To Improve Your Daily Skincare Routine
One way to achieve beautiful, healthy, and glowing skin is to start a skincare routine. While starting a skincare routine may sound intimidating, it’s not as difficult as you might think. All you need are a couple of quality products and some time to achieve the skin of your dreams. Without further ado, here are the tips that will teach you how to improve your daily skincare routine.
Morning Routine
Your skincare routine should be split into two parts—one for the morning and the other for the evening. We’ll begin with the morning routine. After you get up in the morning and start getting ready for the day, set aside some time to do your skincare routine. The routine should take around 10 to 15 minutes max, which is a small price to pay for smooth, soft, and stunning skin. So, what should you include in your morning skin routine? Read below to learn the answer.
1. Cleansing
The very first step of your skincare routine should be cleansing. All you need is a quality cleanser, some warm water, and clean hands to do this step. If you don’t want to wash your face with your hands, you can always use a clean washcloth instead. To cleanse your skin, first you’ll wet your face with water, then gently rub the cleanser into your skin using circular motions. Try to avoid tugging or pulling as you do this, since doing so can damage your collagen and elasticity over time. Next, all you need to do is wash the cleanser off with warm water using your hands or a clean washcloth.
2. Toning
If you choose to use a toner in your skincare routine, you should use it after cleansing. This ensures that the toner can soak into your skin unimpeded by thick moisturizers or sunscreens. The purpose of toners is to help with the cleansing process and remove oil, dirt, and bacteria while balancing the pH of your skin. To apply toner, place a few drops on a clean cotton pad, spread it gently over your face, and then allow it to dry before moving on to the next step.
3. Treating and Moisturizing
After your skin feels smooth and clean from the toner, it’s time to move on to serums. Serums should be your best friends since they help with many skin concerns, such as dark spots, wrinkles, dryness, and inflammation. At our BOHO skincare med spa, we often use serums in many of our facials to brighten and beautify the skin. Some common ingredients that you’ll find in quality serums are vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin B3, and niacinamide. Keep in mind that you should not randomly choose a serum, and the one you use should help improve your specific skin concerns. So, with your serum in hand, all you need to do is apply a few drops to your face as directed.
After serum comes moisturizer. Even if you have acne, moisturizer is an extremely important step in the skincare routine that you should not skip, since drying out your skin can cause more acne to appear. The purpose of moisturizer is to hydrate and soften the skin. If you have very dry skin, choose a heavier moisturizer; however, you have oily or acne-prone skin, you should choose a lighter formula such as a face lotion or gel. Gently rub the moisturizer into the skin until it absorbs, and then you’ll be ready to move on to the next step.
4. Protecting
The final step in your morning skincare routine is protecting your face from harsh sunlight. Sunscreen should be a part of everyone’s skincare routine since harmful UV rays are one of the top causes of skin aging. And remember—we are not talking about the thick sunscreen you may use at the beach. There are many different types of sunscreen that are all safe to use every day and will not clog your pores.
Nighttime Routine
As you prepare to go to bed at night, set aside some time to do your nighttime skincare routine. Your skin heals and regenerates as you sleep, and a skincare routine can aid that regenerative process. Your nighttime routine is very similar to your daytime routine, and it will help you achieve the skin you desire. Here are the steps you should follow for a nighttime skincare routine.
1. Cleansing
Similar to your morning skincare routine, you’ll begin your nighttime routine by cleansing your skin. This will remove any oil, dirt, or buildup from the day. Keep in mind that cleansers usually do not remove makeup effectively, so you’ll need to use a makeup remover before cleansing if you use cosmetics. To cleanse your skin, wet your face with water, apply the same cleanser that you use in the morning, rub gently in circles, and then rinse it off with warm water.
2. Toning
The next step is toner. As previously stated, toners help the cleansing process and remove dirt, bacteria, oil, and buildup. They can also aid in balancing your skin’s pH. To apply toner, just dab a few drops on a cotton round, apply to your face, and wait for it to dry. Give your toner time to soak into your skin before applying serums or moisturizers.
3. Rejuvenating and Treating
After your toner, you can apply your serums and skin treatments. Serums, acne treatments, and eye creams are all excellent ways to treat your skin concerns and rejuvenate your skin. Use these treatments as directed, and never mix them without consulting your esthetician.
4. Moisturizing
And the final tip to improve your daily skincare routine is to moisturize your skin before you sleep. Your moisturizer will lock in all the ingredients from your treatments and serums while hydrating your skin. Your skin loses moisture as you sleep, but with a quality moisturizer, you can ensure that your skin remains hydrated and healthy throughout the night.
